This past year I had the good fortune to do some gigs with the marvelous pianist, Eric Gunnison. His playing was so powerfully creative and supportive that I found myself transported to a new musical dimension with my ears and my soul open to possibilities I’d not noticed before. It was like flying. At times, I actually felt myself lifting up out of my red shoes!

From the experience of playing with Eric came this recording with other “cream of the crop” players - bassist Mark Simon, and drummer Paul Romaine, both of whom I’d admired for centuries! I also brought into the studio my friend and pianist (both here and in France), Andrew Cox. His poignant accompaniment on “Ne Me Quitte Pas” makes me long to be in the Quartier Latin on a warm summer evening. Bassist Kirk Anderson and my son, Christian Bouck, brought that groovy shuffle feel I crave to my song, “The Valley”, and clarinet wizard, Harry Grainger, added the snaky, klezmeresque touch I was looking for.
I will keep opening my voice and my heart. This album is a step along the way.
